| Record Participation in SACCNE Fifth Vasalopp |
More than 60 skiers, ages 7 to 70, participated in SACCNE's(Swedish American Chamber of Commerce of New England) annual Vasa Ski Race at Weston Ski Track, in the Boston suburbs. Despite the lack of natural snow this winter, and thanks to the professional snow making at the cross country center, the ski track was in perfect "green wax" condition for the racers.
SWEA provided refreshments including hot dogs, blueberry soup (a traditional favorite), semlor, and coffee.
Winner in the men's division was Andy Milne; winner in the women's division was Clare Egan, who finished only 3 minutes behind the top male competitor. This year's "Kranskulla" was Ginga Severin-Olsson, Vice Consul at the Swedish Consulate in Boston, who crowned the winners with the traditional wreaths.
The clubhouse was packed after the race for the awards ceremony. Gold sponsors for the event were Boston VOLVO, IKEA., and SAS. Winners received $ 250.00.IKEA gift certificates (sorry no Volvos for the winners!!). Second prizes were Orrefors crystal bowls (donated by SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINES) plus $50.00 gift certificates from CROWN BAKERY; third place skiers received gifts certificates from FAST SPLITS. EXPLORICA donated the semlor (baked at Crown Bakery, Worcester, MA); and the children's division winners received ski hats from CRAFT, and fleeces from EXCEL. Thank you to all our sponsors.
The event has grown in popularity each winter; and we welcome members from other SACC chapters to join us in 2008!!
