SWEA, in short
SWEA, Swedish Women's Educational Association, Inc., is an ideal global organization for Swedish and Swedish speaking women who are currently living or have lived abroad.
Joining all members via our common language, ethnicity, and culture, SWEA becomes both a meeting place and a safety net having connections around the world. This makes life easier while living abroad.
SWEA also supports members when moving abroad, between countries, as well as welcoming them when moving back to Sweden.
SWEA's international network becomes even more important as a meaningful resource for the Swedish way of life abroad.
Today, SWEA is one of the largest Swedish-promoting organizations, who's activities and events is one of Sweden's face to the rest of the world, who bonds with other countries.
SWEA Supports education via scholarships and various projects with ties to Sweden.
SWEA has about 8000 members, in over 80 local areas, in over 40 different countries, on five continents.
SWEA's Goal is to preserve the Swedish language, support and spread Swedish culture and traditions, help create personal and professional connections, as well as establish a world wide network of SWEA members.
The organization was founded in 1979 in Los Angeles by Agneta Nilsson. She has received two medals from our king for her SWEA initiatives. Other awards include Swede-in-the-World of the Year in 1995, and Swedish-American of the year in 2006.
